VHS conversion at Rewind Digital starts with the number of tapes and your delivery choice. Use the current price list and calculator below to see your estimate before submitting a request. A box of family videos can be difficult to price at a glance. You might have two wedding tapes, a handful of camcorder cassettes and no idea how much footage is on any of them. Start with what you can count. You do not need to play every tape before asking about a transfer.
Start with the number of tapes
For our standard transfer estimate, the starting unit is each cassette. Count full-size VHS tapes separately from compact VHS-C, MiniDV and other camcorder tapes. Include anything you are unsure about in your notes rather than guessing.
A label such as E180 describes the tape's capacity, rather than proving how much home footage is recorded on it. If you already know the recording length, tell us. If you do not, leave that for the format and condition check.
Our price page and order builder use the same published rates. When rates are available, adding or removing tapes updates the estimate immediately. The breakdown shows media costs, any advertised tape discount, a minimum-order adjustment if applicable, and the selected delivery option.
Download or USB?
Digital download is the starting delivery choice. USB can be useful if you want a physical copy of the files, but it is worth checking what you will watch them on. A television having a USB socket does not by itself establish which video files it can play.
Choose your preference in the builder. Any published USB charge is shown separately, so you can see its effect on the total. We confirm the delivery details and playback requirements before the order goes ahead.
Why the final quote may need a check
The calculator is a planning estimate. It cannot inspect a cracked cassette, identify mould or determine how a recording was made. Tape format, recording length, condition and special handling can affect the work needed.
For Hi8 camcorder tapes, including Sony Hi8 recordings, include the format markings and camcorder model if you have them. We confirm compatibility before arranging a handover. If you tick that you are unsure, any displayed total covers the known items and still needs a format check.
Repairs, specialist recovery, restoration and unusual media are discussed separately. Tell us about them at the start so we can explain what is possible and agree any additional cost before work begins.
Keep a mixed order straightforward
You can include loose printed photographs alongside your tapes. Count prints as individual photographs and keep the types separate. Photo scanning, tape conversion and a USB option appear as separate lines in your estimate.
If your quantities are approximate, say so in the notes. The final inventory and quote are agreed before conversion. Submitting the form does not take a payment or confirm an appointment.
Arranging a transfer near Tadcaster
Rewind Digital is based in Tadcaster and offers local drop-off and collection by appointment. If you are travelling from Wetherby, Boston Spa, York or a nearby village, wait for the agreed meeting details before setting off.
Keep tapes in their cases, leave useful labels attached and mention any birthday or anniversary deadline when you enquire. We will confirm availability and an estimated turnaround rather than ask you to assume a completion date.
The easiest next step is to build your order estimate. You can then submit the details for a quote and arrange the handover directly.
