Often, yes—after VHS or camcorder tapes have been converted into digital files, a television with compatible USB media playback can show them. But a USB socket alone does not guarantee that your TV can play your files. Check the exact TV model and its supported video, audio and USB storage formats before choosing how to watch.
What should I check before choosing USB delivery?
Find your television's full model number in its settings or on its label, then look up the manufacturer's manual. Search for “USB video playback”, “media player” or “supported file formats”.
There are two separate compatibility checks:
- Can the TV read that USB storage device and its file system?
- Can it play the video and audio inside the files?
A file ending in `.mp4`, for example, is not a complete compatibility specification. The video and audio encoding matter too. Samsung's technical documentation lists these separately and notes that support varies by model year and model group. Do not assume that instructions for another television of the same brand apply to yours.
When enquiring about a transfer, say that TV viewing is your main aim and include the model number. Ask for confirmation of the proposed file format before work starts; Rewind Digital does not promise compatibility with every television.
How do I try watching the files from USB?
Once you have confirmed compatibility:
1. Keep a separate copy of the delivered files before connecting the USB to your TV. 2. Follow the TV manual's instructions for connecting USB storage. 3. Open its media player or connected-devices menu and choose the video file. Menu names differ between models. 4. Test picture and sound before gathering everyone for a family viewing. 5. Check a later section as well as the beginning, especially if the recording is long.
Sony's USB playback guidance describes this general route but warns that some files may not play even within supported formats. If the television offers to format or set up the drive for recording, stop and check the manual rather than proceed with your only copy of the videos.
What if I see “unsupported file” or get no sound?
Note the exact message, TV model and filename. Check whether the same file opens with picture and sound on a computer. That comparison can help narrow down a TV compatibility problem, but it does not by itself identify the cause.
Picture without sound can involve audio compatibility; a file not appearing can involve the storage device or file format. Avoid repeatedly changing settings at random. Compare the file's details with the manufacturer's supported formats, or ask for help with those details.
Simply renaming a filename extension does not convert the video inside it. Keep the original delivered files unchanged while investigating.
Does USB delivery include a television setup service?
No TV installation or home setup service is confirmed. Rewind Digital provides digital transfers with download included and optional USB delivery. See how the transfer and handover work and the current prices.
For VHS conversion, VHS-C, MiniDV or Hi8, build an estimate and send a request, mentioning your TV model and viewing plans. Format, condition, availability and the final quote are confirmed before work; the website does not take payment online.
Local drop-off and collection are by appointment in Tadcaster, with your originals returned. Allow up to one week from your agreed drop-off. We'll confirm the completion date with your quote; mention any birthday, anniversary or other deadline when you enquire.
