Count every supported cassette, multiply by the current per-tape price, then apply the larger-order discount when the batch contains at least 10 supported tapes. Rewind Digital’s live pricing applies the discount automatically in the online estimate.

How does the 10-tape discount work?

At the prices checked on 28 October 2026, VHS, VHS-C, MiniDV and confirmed Hi8 tapes are £12 each.

When one order contains **10 or more supported tapes combined**, 10% is deducted from the tape subtotal. The discount does not apply to an optional USB or to photo scanning.

| Supported tapes | Tape subtotal | Discount | Download estimate | |---:|---:|---:|---:| | 8 | £96.00 | None | £96.00 | | 10 | £120.00 | £12.00 | £108.00 | | 15 | £180.00 | £18.00 | £162.00 |

An optional USB adds £10 per order. For example, 10 supported tapes with USB would produce an estimate of £118.

These are estimates rather than confirmed orders. Format, condition, availability and the final quote are agreed before work starts.

Can different tape formats count towards the ten?

Yes. The threshold is based on the combined number of supported tapes, so a batch could contain VHS, VHS-C, MiniDV and Hi8.

Count each physical cassette once. Do not count cardboard sleeves, empty cases or a handwritten list of recordings as separate tapes. If you are unsure about a small cassette, use the camcorder-tape identification guide rather than guessing.

Video8, Digital8, HDV and unusual formats need separate confirmation and should not be assumed to qualify until their format has been checked.

Should I play every tape before requesting an estimate?

No. You do not need to watch every recording simply to request an estimate.

The Canadian Conservation Institute recommends evaluating cassette and tape condition before playback because physical or chemical damage can affect both the recording and playback equipment. The US National Archives also advises limiting how often original tapes are played and using equipment appropriate to the format.

For a first estimate, record:

1. The number of physical cassettes. 2. The format printed on each tape. 3. Any visible cracks, loose tape, debris or suspected mould. 4. Important handwritten labels or known dates. 5. Whether you prefer download delivery or an optional USB.

Do not open a cassette, attempt a repair or test a visibly damaged tape.

How should I prepare a larger batch?

Group tapes by format without removing their original labels. Give each cassette a simple reference number and keep a matching list of names, dates or events. Store the batch upright in its cases until the appointment; avoid attics, garages, damp areas and strong heat.

If the order is for a birthday, anniversary or another deadline, mention that before booking. Allow up to one week from the agreed Tadcaster drop-off, with the completion date confirmed with the quote.

How do I request the final quote?

Use the online estimate and order-request form to enter the quantity for each format. The form saves a request; it does not take payment online. Rewind Digital will confirm the formats, final price and appointment before work begins.

Local drop-off and return of originals are by appointment in Tadcaster.
